Touring an amazing destination can be exhilarating, educational, exciting, fun-filled, action-packed….and exhausting. And for most travelers the return home is equally frantic. By the time you get back, a pipe has frozen, broken and flooded, the dog has had a stroke, your office has sprung a next-day meeting on you, you have to start planning a wedding…or whatever….and the wow of the trip can start to fade into the rat race of the day to day.
That’s why I like to keep in my pocket a handful of amazing little quiet wonder spots around the world where my clients can catch their breath and reflect on what they’ve experienced during the past many days. These are places that offer lovely accommodations, excellent food and beverage, lighter activities….but are not heavy on historical or cultural sites, so one does not end up “running around” once there. Three nights is always recommended at the end of a rigorous trip.
After touring Croatia, try a stop at Villa Nai 3.3 on the serene island of Kornati and at the edge of that island’s scenic national park. With only 5 deluxe rooms and 3 deluxe suites, this is a tiny outpost and also suitable for family or small-group-of-friends buyouts.
Sicily serves up a spectacular repast of culture, ruins, history and beauty, but after seeing the sites, unwind at Sikelia on the tiny island of Pantelleria, (belongs to Sicily but is actually closer to Tunisia in the Mediterranean. The property offers a delightful open-air spa and plenty of hiking and mountain biking options if you want some good work-out stimulation before boarding that return flight.
And what could be more inviting than a cozy, sandy beach following a South African photo safari? Let’s try the Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort in Mozambique where each guest is luxuriously housed in an eco-friendly villas in the heart of a protected marine park. Take a sunset cruise, do some light cycling and even some horseback riding in this idyllic setting.
So after your big bucket list getaway….why not attach an “unwind” option before immersing yourself back into the fray of the familiar? Planning such an add-on can make a big difference in vacation memories. Here’s where you can sort your photos, create your social media posts, reflect on what you’ve been doing and prepare for what lies ahead.
